Barion Pixel Maltese Symphony Scholarship Program - Maltaball Koncert

The Maltese Symphony Program

The Maltese Symphony is a music-social program launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta, aimed at promoting the social integration of disadvantaged children— often living in deep poverty or socially excluded communities — through community-based music education.

The program is inspired by Venezuela’s El Sistema model and seeks to develop the self-confidence, cooperation skills, perseverance, and academic performance of participating children through the joy of music and collective creativity.

During the sessions, children receive instrumental music education along with social support. The symphony program today operates in several locations across Hungary and has shown many positive effects on the development of the students involved.

Performances like the Maltese Charity Concert hold special importance in the lives of these children — the experience of performing on stage affirms that they are talented, valuable, and that they have a role in society.

The Maltese Symphony Orchestra’s performance at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 2022 was a great success.

The Hungarian Association of the Order of Malta and the Maltese Symphony Scholarship Program

The Hungarian Association of the Sovereign Order of Malta, using the proceeds from last year’s 6th St. John Charity Ball, established and launched the Maltese Symphony Scholarship Program as part of the Maltese Symphony initiative.

The goal of the scholarship is to support talented, disadvantaged students who are preparing for a musical career and are continuing their secondary education in music-specialized schools.

Over the past year, the scholarship has not only provided financial assistance to several students, but also offered them mentoring, thereby helping their academic progress and social integration.

Proceeds from the charity concert in September will provide funding to continue this important work and program.

The Maltese Symphony Orchestra’s performance at the Pesti Vigado was a highlight of the 6th St. John Charity Ball hosted by the Hungarian Association of the Order of Malta in the summer of 2024.
